Search-engine giant Google makes it easy to find nearly anyplace in the world on a map within seconds. Quiet, unassuming Falls City High School sophomore Andrea Woodruff did her part to put her hometown on the map.
Representatives from the search-engine company Google visited Falls City High School on May 18 to take part in an all-school-district assembly recognizing the artwork of Andrea Woodruff. Andrea, 16, created a "Doodle 4 Google" contest sketch that was selected as a top-40 finalist among more than 33,000 submissions nationwide.
Using Google's theme, 'If I Could Do Anything, I Would ...,' Andrea, who loves to write and draw, created 'The Magic in a Book,' which features an open book, out of which fairy-tale characters take flight. Her doodle includes a crimson dragon wrapping its tail around a red "g" in the Google logo, a princess sitting on one "o", a witch flying on a broom and a rabbit watering a huge mushroom.
Andrea's artwork drew on her desire to publish a book. "I thought about this hard and long. Then it hit me, I would publish a book. My ideas are overflowing, and in this doodle they are coming to life. Jumping out of the pages for the whole world to see."
